Idex Useability

How should the Idex Functions be used in Craftware Pro ?

If i place a Model and change the Settings to Parallel or Mirrored Mode, the useable Areas are Marked in the graphics Window as expected.

But despite the M9006 Code there is nothing changed in the G-Code, there is no Part shown in the Printarea of the 2nd Head, and the printer is only using one Printhead generating one single Part.

The special idex functions are implemented in the printer.

There is no duplicated gcode generated. Only one command to set the special mode.

M9006 S0; default dual head printing
M9006 S1; MIRROR printing
M9006 S2; PARALLEL printing
M9006 S4; INVERT heads T0 <--> T1
M9006 S5; enable BACKUP mode on second head

So that is the reason that you don't see anything interesting in the gcode besides the extra configuration command. If the command is there, the Idex will do the task.

András

Hi András,

i have tried this, but the iedx is not working as expected.

Before i wrote the first Post i have quit the print because i recognized that only one Printhead has been heating up.

Now i just tried again, and the Idex is not heating up the 2nd Core, but starts printing with both Printheads.

Logically, the next step is a Filament Jam Detection. The HMI says "No intervention required" but completely crashes after this Message.

What is going wrong there ?

PS: I wanted to check if the 2nd Head is working correctly, and started a print just with Head 2.

But now it is printing with both Heads in parallel Mode ....

There is no M9006 in the G-Code, but the text says "Default Mode", i am sure that there should be an M9006 S0 at least once to reset the Printer.

Hi Simon,

In "Default Mode" we allow the printer to set the desired mode, so you can set in on the LCD of the Flow. (Also, the printer remembers the last used mode, if it was set by a GCode)

If we would add the "M9006 S0" GCode in the "Default Mode", it would always overwrite the printer's own settings.
So there would be no print mode where you could set the desired mode on the printer's LCD.

I think we should maybe rename this to "Use Printer Defined Mode", and have a separate "Dual Head Mode" with the "M9006 S0" GCode in it, just to be clear.

Norbert

Hi Norbert,

there are two Issues i see in this place:

1st, there is no "Dual Head" Mode, Just Default (what is as you've said more precisely "Printer defined Mode"), Parallel / Mirrored & Backup.

So it is impossible to switch back to "Dual Mode" via the Slicer. The M9006 S0 needs to be manually placed, or you have to change it in the Printers HMI.

2nd, the Position in which you place the M9006 Order in the GCode is wrong.

If the printer is in "Dual Mode" it is heating up one Printcore, and then gets the Information to perform a Mirrored or Parallel Print.

M9006 needs to be placed in the 1st Row, or at least before the M109 Code.

On the other Hand, letting the Printer do the work for Parallel or Mirrored Mode is a nice Idea, but not practically working good.

  • The Slicer does not recognize if the printed Parts are out of the reachable Area. The printer recognizes this, but starts printing anyway after sending an Error Message.
  • Perfection is something theoretically existing. Printheads are never 100% identically, so printing in Parallel with 100% the same Preferences results in 1 Good and 1 Junk Part. What is the Temperature Tolerance for Printheads, ± 5° ? Or even more ? So sending M109 250 may result in reality in one head heated up to 245° and the second to 255°. And it is the same with all the other influencing values like Object Fan / Extrusion width / Flow Rate ... But theres no chance for Users to get this handled if the Printer just copies every Parameter to the 2nd Head.

Kind Regards,

Simon

Hi

We just got our Flow Idex delivered on Friday, and just installed Craftware Pro and trying to figure out this new program which i havent used before, but i am having issues understanding how it works.

If i set the printer to default mode and i setup a mirrored print in Craftware, just like the author i cant visually see what im doing, only on the left extruder, there are no statistics on head #2. If i upload that G-Code the printer will overrule and only print on head #1.

Does this mean that i have to manually set the printer to the whatever type of print i want, and thus the settings in Craftware means absolutely nothing ?

thanks in advance
Nick

Hi,

Sorry for the big delay!

Lots of work.. But I'll try to be here on the forum a bit more.

Okay, some updates on this topic:

  • We've added a "Dual Head" mode to Idex machines, so it can be explicitly set to dual mode, and you can still use the "Default" mode to have just a "generic GCode" without any explicit printing mode commands inserted for the printer.
  • Simon, you are right, the command is indeed in the wrong place!
This is maybe the cause for the thing you've experienced, Nick. It is a bug, setting the mode in CraftWare Pro should set it correctly for the printer.

This is getting fixed, and will be in the next CraftWare Pro release, estimated this friday. (Maybe monday if there are issues)

  • A visual indicator is not yet in the GCode viewer, but we will add it at some point. The fact that only one head is shown to print something is because the GCode itself only has information about that. The printing mode set to "Parallel" or "Mirror" will cause the printer to copy the movements of the left head for the right head.
From CraftWare Pro's point of view there is not much it can do about this, it is a single command towards the printer.
But yeah, it would be nice to have some extra stuff to this. If the firmware will allow more depth into setting these up, CraftWare Pro will follow and provide those for users.
  • The printable area was updated, so it will show in red where the objects would be outside the area for Parallel and Mirror as well.
There is a minor bug in auto-packing related to this, as that packs everything in the center of the bed, which is not good for Parallel and Mirror, but we are working on it. If it won't be fixed in the next release, then it will be in the one after that.
  • We've been adjusting some things regarding dual head printing, which are available in the released version. One of these things is the toolchange Z-hop and retraction behavior, which were added to the factory printer settings, and enhance the dual print behavior. (less oozing for the idle heads)
If you would like to have these extra default settings, remove the printer from in the "Settings" window with the "-" button, and re-add it with the "+" button.
We're working on a mechanism to automatically refresh factory settings in printers which are added into the user's own list, but it needs to be thoroughly tested not to mess up some settings which were intentionally modified by the user.

Norbert
