Bug: Y and Z values mixed up when using metric scale

Hi

When using the metric scale transformation action (both in CAD & manufactering view), the values of the Y and Z axis are mixed up (v1.0.0.154).

Example, using a new cuboid:
creating new cube

After creating, the transformation toolbox shows the "length" in the Z axis field and Y is some other value (not all the time, sometimes it will just be the height)

Editing Y Scale results in strange behaviour

I clicked "Reset Transform", now the values are just mixed up like i described before.

Changing Y or Z results in the object being scaled relative to the original value (1mm -> 2mm = double length).

Also, repeatedly clicking "Reset Transform" will mess up the scale values all together. The value fields then only show "Infinity" and the object behaves very weird.

Thanks this software. I really like this new (to my knowledge) approach, the over all concept. Keep up the good work!

Regards
Stefan

Dear Stefan,

Thank you for your feedback!

Ahhh, the good old Z axis switcharoo... 🙂

Usually the Engineers (and CNC machines, 3D printers, alongside everybody who are/were using a table) are having the XY plane on the horizontal surface, and the perpendicular vertical up direction is the Z.

In contrast, the display oriented individuals (3D designers, 3D software/game developers) prefer the monitor plane as XY plane, with the Y axis as a vertical up direction, and the Z axis as a depth from the viewer.

In the middle between the two worlds here we are 🙂 We tried to make this conversion as transparent as possible, but we clearly missed some points!

Thank you for discovering and pointing it out for us! I created a ticket, and this will be surely fixed in our next release!

Best Regards,

András

Thanks for bringing this issue to light! It sounds like a frustrating experience with the Y and Z values getting mixed up during transformations. I’ve encountered similar behavior before, especially after resetting transforms multiple times. It might be worth checking if there are any updates or patches available that address this bug. Your positive feedback about the overall concept is encouraging, and I hope the developers can resolve these quirks soon. Keep us posted on any further findings!

Thanks for the tag game 2 player  report, Stefan! I’ve noticed similar Y/Z issues too—definitely seems like a bug. Hopefully the devs can patch this in the next release. Great tool otherwise!

I appreciate you bringing this to our attention! The Y and Z values becoming confused during transformations sounds like a frustrating experience. Similar phenomenon has happened to me previously, particularly after repeatedly resetting transforms. It could be worthwhile to see whether there are any patches or updates available to fix this issue. It's good to hear your positive thoughts about the concept as a whole, and I hope the engineers can quickly fix these bugs. Please update us on any new discoveries!
