Introduction
These set of tools can be used for surface selection and manipulation.
Below, the image shows how the surface selection is represented. As you can see, there is a new child entry in the tree view as part of the object which owns this selection. Also, the model's triangles are colored to show the selection.
Magic wand surface selection
By clicking on a surface of a model, this tool will try to select adjacent faces based on the criteria of the angle between the adjacent surface and the selected one. If this angle is below the threshold, the face will be selected. The selection method can be absolute iteration which means the angle will be compared to the selected face, while relative iteration will compare the last successful selection with the new candidate.
Brush surface selection
With the help of this tool you can select faces of a 3D mesh within a specified circular range. The selection will occur when the selection indicator reaches the center of the triangle face.
Rectangular surface selection
2D projection of a rectangle onto the 3D mesh will specify a bounding box for selection. The selection criteria can be "Any Vertex" if the rectangle selection bounding box contains at least one vertex of the triangle face, then it will be selected. This behavior may be too greedy, so you can use "All vertices" as selection mode. All the three vertices of a triangle face must fall withing the bounds of the rectangle to be selected. And lastly, with "Centroid" the face will be selected if the rectangle contains center point of the given triangle.
Surface displacer
With the surface displacer tool, you can move, rotate and/or scale the selected triangle faces.
Surface eraser
Using this tool, you can erase the selected triangle faces.
Surface smoother
Using this tool you can smooth/flatten the selected set of triangle faces. With "Preserve boundary" this operation won't modify the boundary of the selection. The number of steps/iterations can be changed and this tool can be used successively multiple times to get an even smoother/flatter surface.
Bisect
Bisect tool is used to divide models into two parts specified by a cutting plane. There is an option to close holes where the cut happened. You can decide which parts to keep after the bisect operation. The upper part is where the blue arrow lives, basically, the top of the cutting plane.
Decompose options:
- Cut
- Split
- Half
- Parts
Keep part options:
- Upper
- Lower
- Both
Emboss
Embossing and debossing are the processes of creating either raised or recessed relief designs using the selected triangle faces. The distance can be positive (emboss) or negative (deboss)
