== Introduction ==

Support structures are essential auxiliary objects in the 3D printing procedure when dealing with complex models. FDM printing works depositing thermoplastics layer-by-layer. Each new layer should be supported by the layer below it. In some cases the layer coming from the printed object could not support the next layer well enough. In this case the support objects help to solve this problem. These parts called overhangs.

== Automatic Support ==

CraftWare Pro offers an automatic Support Structure generation. You can access it by opening the Support Tool. It analyses the geometry of the model and generates the necessary Support Object to provide solid foundation for the upcoming layers. The algorithm takes the slope of the surface and the local minimum surfaces into account.

The two most important parameters are:

* Minimum Slope

It defines the minimum slope angle of the supported surfaces in degrees. A higher value means less support and vice-versa.

* Minimum Area

To evade to support too small areas, the algorithm filters the surface patches below this Area threshold.

You can (re)generate or clear the supported surfaces by clicking the corresponding button.

== Paint On Support ==

While the Support Tool is active you can manually edit the selected surfaces with Surface Painting.

You can add surface patches with the ''Left Mouse Button'' and remove with the ''Right Mouse Button''.

== External Support Object ==

You can also use external support objects. You can import CAD prepared support models and assign the ''Support Role'' to the object.
